Booking a birthday party in Da Lat without the hassle

What to sort out before booking
Birthdays in Da Lat usually go wrong over small things: booking a place with no long table so the group ends up split across two corners, or arriving to find the kitchen already closed. Settle these before you call.
- Confirmed head count — this decides the table layout, not the number of people invited. For a group of 10 or more, see how to pick a BBQ place for a large group.
- Time slot — if you want the sunset, you need to arrive earlier than a normal dinner.
- Indoors or outdoors — Da Lat cools down fast after dark; groups with older relatives or small children should lean indoors.
- Who handles decoration — ask directly whether the restaurant helps, so you don’t carry a bag of balloons with nowhere to hang them.
- How you’re getting there — if you’re driving, check for parking first.
Indoor or open-air seating?
The simplest plan is to sit outside in the late afternoon for the sunset and photos, then move indoors when it gets cold; groups with older guests or small children are better off indoors from the start. Choosing between indoors and outdoors shapes the evening more than anything else, because Da Lat weather shifts through the day.
The open-air area gives you the view. At Xom Leo the outer row looks straight down into the Trai Mat valley, and late afternoon light falls across the flower gardens and greenhouses below. The trade-off: from around 19:00 the temperature drops quickly and mist can roll in.
Indoors is warmer and easier to talk in — better for a large group that wants to sing without the wind taking the sound away.
What many groups do: book outdoors from 17:00 to 19:00 for the sunset and photos, then move inside for the cake and the main meal. In the rainy season (May–October), hold an indoor table as a backup. The menu and prices are identical in both areas — see the full menu.

Decoration: bring your own or let the venue handle it?
Bringing your own gives you control over the colours, but you need to arrive at least 30 minutes early to set up — and not every venue lets you fix things to walls or ceilings.
Xom Leo sets up birthdays, anniversaries and group parties free of charge — no decoration fee. Mention it when you book so the team can prepare, and say so if you want to keep it a surprise for the guest of honour.
A few things worth asking on the call, since every venue differs: whether you can bring a cake from outside, and whether there’s somewhere for candles or your own music. One phone call beats improvising on arrival.
What does a birthday dinner cost?
At Xom Leo a full BBQ meal averages 250,000–300,000 VND per person. The 68-item menu runs from 12,000 to 320,000 VND, so a group can steer the total easily.
A worked example for six people, ordering enough to be full with something photogenic on the table:
- 2 Okachi beef slabs with cheese and salted egg at 229,000 VND — the usual centrepiece for a party table: 458,000 VND
- 1 É leaf chicken hotpot at 300,000 VND in the middle to keep things warm: 300,000 VND
- 3 portions of salt & pepper grilled beef belly at 155,000 VND: 465,000 VND
- 1 fish sauce fried chicken cartilage at 145,000 VND and 1 sweet potato croquettes at 70,000 VND: 215,000 VND
- 6 bottles of Tiger Silver at 28,000 VND: 168,000 VND
That comes to 1,606,000 VND — about 268,000 VND a head. Order lighter or skip the beer and it drops below that; add a second hotpot or plum wine and it climbs. Full per-item pricing is on the menu page.

How far ahead should you book?
On a quiet weekday a small group can usually just turn up. A birthday is different — you need tables together, and the kitchen needs time to prepare the setup.
- Weekends and holidays: book ahead, and state your arrival time.
- If you want the valley-facing outdoor row: book early, that row fills first.
- Larger groups: give the closest head count you can so tables are joined correctly.
Book by phone on +84 76 452 7336, via Zalo, by Facebook message, or through the booking form on the home page. If your group is larger than the space left, the sister restaurant Tram Dung Chill is right next door at number 111.
The good time slots: sunset and the night train
If you want the evening to be memorable beyond the cake, aim for one of these two windows.
- Before 17:00 — in time for the sun dropping over the valley whatever the month (sunset ranges from about 17:20 in mid-November to 18:15 in early July). This is the best light of the day.
- 18:40–19:00 and 20:45–21:10 — the two night trains leave Da Lat Station at 18:15 and 20:20 and take about 25 minutes, so they pass within sight of the restaurant in these windows.
The train only runs with enough passengers, so if you are building the evening around it, call Da Lat Station on 0263 3834 409 to confirm. Where to sit and how to time it is covered in our piece on the Da Lat BBQ with a train view.
What to order for a group
A simple rule for a party table: one sharing slab that everyone notices when it arrives, one hotpot to keep the table warm through the meal, and individual grilled dishes ordered as you go.
- The sharing slab — Okachi beef with cheese and salted egg, 229,000 VND.
- Something spicy — Thai-style spicy ribs, 259,000 VND.
- Something different — salt-roasted sturgeon, 199,000 VND.
- To keep warm — chicken and la e hotpot at 300,000 VND, or seafood hotpot at 320,000 VND.
When it gets cold the staff bring blankets and hot tea without being asked. Directions from the centre are on the directions page, and the space itself is covered on the experience page.
